My artwork is a mobile. There is a circle of wire at the top and hanging from it is fishing line holding a ball that is made to look like earth. The earth has blue and green blobs on it. There is a heart on the center of it that is red. It has 7 different blobs in the heart, each with a different initials. On the top of the earth there is some greenery and a flower. If you go up the line a bit you see a green plumbob. Above the plumbob are more strings of greenery and flowers. Around the wire at the very top are split leaves surrounding the whole thing. To create the artwork, I started with the earth. I used a bowl and plaster to mold two half circles. Then I plastered the circles together. I used modge podge and tissue paper to seal the ball and to add the earth idea. Then I used a piece of wire to fish the fishing line through the ball. I used a friendship bracelet type of knot and tied a bead at the bottom of the world so that the earth would look like it's floating. I cut out triangles of cardboard and paper taped them together to create the plumbob. I painted the plumbob green because the plumbob in Sims 4 is green and I wanted it to represent that. I used another bead and knot to make the plumbob float above the earth. I hot glued fake greenery and flowers to the fishing line and globe. I also hot glued some leaves to the top ring. I used hot glue to secure the knots I tied in the fishing string. This artwork was all about identity and what makes a person a person. I think that my artwork is very odd and confusing at first glance but once I explain it, it all makes sense. I tried to show some of my favorite things in the WORLD with this project. I used the earth idea because I wanted to show what makes up MY world. At the center of the earth I wanted to show the people who make up my world and so I wrote the initial letter of each of their names. The plumbob represents 1. my love of architecture and 2. my love of the game Sims 4. I have many plants in my room and I love succulents and greenery. So I incorporated that into my art as well. I obviously have many other things that make up me and my life but I just wanted to focus on my main favorites. My goals for this artwork were to effectively show my personality in a interesting but cool way. My over all thoughts on this artwork are that it was very different from my previous artworks and its very odd but I think that it all came together and it really points out the things Im fond of.

So far my project is going well. I developed my craft by using a bowl and plaster to make two half circles. I plastered them together and sealed the sphere with modge podge and tissue paper. I used blue and green tissue paper to express my world concept. I'm using the world idea because I want to show what's important in MY life/ MY world. So far my plan is on schedule. I like the use of tissue paper because its flat and it is dual purpose. It works as a seal and as a decoration. Tomorrow I plan on starting to string the world to start the mobile and possibly start making the plumbob.
My studio habits for this artwork are express and reflect. I'm trying to express my identity by showing all of my favorite things in this artwork. I'm using reflect because I had to take time and really think about all the things that make me happy/sad or that contribute to my identity. Im planning on using plaster so far. I'm not sure how I will do my images quite yet. I would like to use a string of leaves on the line that will hold my world up. Like Ivory leaves possibly. My whole idea is that my world contains all the things I like and in the middle of my world are the people who are in my heart. The green emblem on the middle of the line of my mobile shows my love of Sims 4. Each sim walks around with the ¨Plumbob¨ floating over their head so I wanted that above my world. Then the string of plant represents my love of plants and green.
My artwork is about 1 and half feet tall. It is a wire sculpture painted to look like a shiny statue. the color is a dark pink. The figure does not have a face but it has a head and a body. It is shaped like a girl. I started with wire and made the rough outline of the figure. I then added on tin foil to shape her. After the tinfoil I used modge podge and paper towels to seal the body and to make it easier to paint. I painted it black and then used a technique called ¨Feather brushing¨ to pu on the metallic outside. I wanted to express being sassy so I had her put one hand on her hip and her other hand in the air. My goals were to make a figure and to make it look like a cool statue. My overall thoughts are that it is ok. Its not favorite but I feel like it looks decent. |
